Ice climbing course:
- Location: Großkirchenheim
- Dates: course 25-30 January, arrival 24 January, return 31 January
- Ice climbing kick-off day: 14 December at Monte Cervino
- Participants: 8
- Guidance: 2 NSAC instructors and 2 mountain guides.
- Included in the course price: overnight stay, instructors
- Not included: material, food, transport
If you have experience with rock climbing (OV-MP) and summer alpinism (C2-course), this course provides a valuable opportunity to develop yourself into an allround alpinist.
Goal of the course
On the first course day you will become familiar with the basic movements of ice climbing, and learn how to use ice axes and crampons correctly. There will be some repetition of the ice climbing technique as taught in the C-courses. During the rest of the week there will be both toprope as well as lead ice climbing. In addition, you’ll learn about anchors, abseiling in ice, judging ice conditions and alpine risk assessment.
Entry requirements
- OV-MP certificate
- C2-course or similar experience
- Similar alpine experience of a similar level with substantiation.
If you do not have a MP-OV or C2-course certificate, share your experience when registering. Think about other courses, a list of (unguided) alpine tours on C2 level and multi pitch routes you have climbed.
Touring week
There will be the possibility again of touring in the chalet in Niederthai. This is the perfect addition after the ice climbing course to practice what you have learned. This year, you can directly go to the chalet after the ice climbing course (4h30 drive). In order to join the touring week, it is of course required that you can ice climb and have experience through participating in a course, or a substantiation on why you have the necessary expertise to climb unguided.
