NSAC Winter Bivouac Week

This spring, there’ll be a new NSAC winter programme activity: the winter bivouac week! In a nutshell, it’s a week during which experienced ski tourers haul loads of food up to a high-altitude bivouac or unmanned hut, so they can set off on epic tours from there and, in the evenings, cook up a storm by the stove and swap amazing stories.

The location has not yet been finalised; this partly depends on the availability of the participants. This week is facilitated by the NSAC, but much of the organisation is in the hands of the participants. You’ll soon be able to help decide on a destination, prepare the food, and more.

No instructors or guides will be accompanying the group, so it’s entirely at your own risk. That’s why the entry requirements are high. T3 or equivalent experience is required, as we’ll be in high-alpine glacier terrain.

Depending on the week, location and conditions, the possibilities are endless. In spring, you can ski up to a rock face and climb in your T-shirt under the warm spring sun. On the other side of the mountain, there might still be ice for mixed climbing, and somewhere in between there are steep couloirs just waiting to be skied.

The cost will be around 300 euros and will cover accommodation and food. The NSAC will apply to various funds for financial support.
