NSAC Speleo Summer 2026: Registration opens on January 1, 2026.
In 2026, we are organizing the very first Basic Speleology Course. This course is designed as a 5-day introduction to moving safely and efficiently in underground environments. The goal is to familiarize participants with the fundamental skills required to undertake basic speleological trips under supervision.
As this is the first edition of the course, the exact content is currently being finalized. The primary focus will be on safety, basic rope techniques, and movement in various types of caves.

What will you learn or improve?
The precise learning objectives are still being finalized. However, the course will certainly cover:
- Basic Rope Techniques specific to speleology, such as descending and ascending on a single rope (SRT).
- Use of Speleological Equipment and specialized gear.
- Safe Movement in both horizontal and vertical cave systems.
- Orientation and Underground Navigation.
- Risk Assessment and managing objective hazards.
- Basic Problem-Solving and troubleshooting underground.
- Communication and Teamwork within a speleological group.
Location & Dates
- Location: Doubs region, France.
- Dates: August (the specific week is yet to be determined).
The Doubs region is renowned for its diverse caves, suitable for both horizontal and vertical speleology. Additionally, the area offers excellent opportunities for climbing, via ferrata, and canyoning, should you wish to explore the surroundings before or after the course.
Preparation Day/Weekend
Prior to the course, a mandatory preparation day will be organized in Belgium. This session will focus on fundamental rope and safety techniques.
Price
Since this is the first edition of the course, the final price is still being determined. The current estimate is €700 for the course; this excludes transport, accommodation, and food.
